Trading in my typical skinnies for a pair of culottes is such a sartorial breath of fresh air, and I'm wondering how I ever lived without them. My first introduction to this pants/midi-skirt hybrid was through a childhood neighbor, the daughter of a strict Christian pastor. Though I was personally a bit horrified that it was the only pant-like article of clothing she was ever allowed to wear, I was amazed that she could climb trees and ride her bike with ease in what looked like a skirt. Thankfully, the renditions available today have evolved from the Christian school uniform I was made familiar with, and now I'm proudly sporting them.
For a girls night outing, I paired my culottes with a crop top, baring the part of my body about which I feel most self-conscious in an effort to dispel the lack of confidence (a method that actually sort of works). To the mix, I added a long, unbuttoned shirtdress for a bit of texture. These killer pointed pony hair flats are from the pre-fall collection by Matt Bernson. Handcrafted in small batches in a luxe material by a company that encourages individuality? I'm more than a little obsessed.
